Alcoholics Anonymous

The local Alcoholics Anonymous group meets at St. James’ Church on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm. in the Parish Hall. It is an open speakers meeting and all are welcome to attend. For further info, please call (800) 923-8722 or visit www.lacoaa.org.

Bible Study

This ongoing fellowship, which meets regularly, is open to all who seek a deeper connection with and understanding of Scripture in the context of an open and lively discussion with others. Contact the office for a current schedule.

Children's Ministry

One of the fastest-growing age groups at St. James’ is under age 5! Creativity and life spill out of the Sunday School rooms at St. James’. Childcare is offered during services as well. If you would like to become part of the teaching team of dedicated men and women or check out what is available for your child, contact the parish office. Read more here.

Climate Connections

Parishioner Lucy Jones is working with the Los Angeles Diocese Bishop’s Commission on Climate Change to create a program to help parishes prepared for the natural disasters whose frequency is increasing because of climate change.

St. James’ is one of four parishes being asked to help develop the program with a pilot ministry beginning this fall. This will involve periodic meetings where we will test ideas, exploring what information is most useful to share and what activities will increase our support for each other in times of crisis.

If you are interested in participating, please let the office know.

Education for Ministry

Education for Ministry (EfM) is an experiential learning program designed to cultivate a theologically informed, reflective and articulate laity who are prepared to listen for and respond to God's call. With tools acquired through EfM, participants are equipped to discover and exercise their various gifts for ministry in the places where they live and work. It meets weekly from fall to spring at St. James'.

Food Locker

The mission of Saint James’ Community Food Locker is to extend Christ’s love in a tangible way by providing approximately 50 bags of food to those in need every Friday, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Everyone can help by bringing nonperishable food to church on Sunday. There is an ongoing need for individuals to help collect and distribute food.

Men of St. James'

The Men of St. James ministry exists to foster community among the men of St. James Church and the surrounding area. We build community through fellowship over food and drink in our quarterly “chill grill” events. We have an annual men’s retreat at the beautiful Mater Dolorosa retreat center in Sierra Madre. In addition, we offer occasional services projects within the church and local community. Men of all ages are welcome no matter where you find yourself in your journey of life and faith.

SAGES (Seniors)

Being retired has its advantages! All are welcome. Join the SAGES for a once-a-month luncheon with a speaker and entertainment. You are welcome to come early to help set up, share cooking skills or stay to help clean up—or suggest program activities!

Welcome & Enfolding

The Welcoming and Enfolding Ministry continues to seek ways in which to provide a warm and welcoming connection with those who may be new to the St. James’ faith community. This includes staffing the welcome table after services to provide a tangible meeting place of connection for visitors, and fostering welcoming conversations a few times per year.
