Welcome to St. James Parish Day School! We are so glad that you are interested in learning about our wonderful school! Please contact us at the number listed here so that we can answer any questions you may have about enrollment for fall or to have your child placed on our Wait List. We look forward to hearing from you.
MISSION STATEMENT
We believe that each child should be allowed to grow in an understanding of God’s love. At St. James Parish Day School our program teaches Christian values, guiding the child toward honesty, compassion, empathy and an appreciation of the world.
We base our program on the belief that the first five years of a child’s life are the most important years of his/her life. During that time, the child takes first steps from self-interest to self-confidence. The purpose of the school is to provide an environment for children where they can extend their world beyond their immediate family and neighborhood. We provide opportunities for each child to grow at his/her own pace; physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially in a happy atmosphere of love and understanding.
St. James Parish Day School admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all the rights and privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. St. James Parish Day School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies and other school-administered programs.
SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
St. James Parish Day School believes in a developmental approach to pre-school. Our focus is on learning through play. Nursery classes, especially, focus on social skills and learning through fun, interactive activities. Pre-K classes introduce letter sound relations, number sense, beginning name writing and other writing activities. Our Kindergarten is a structured Kindergarten classroom that duplicates any other regular kindergarten program in public or private schools.
Children arrive at school with different levels of school readiness. Our students come from families that have made time to enrich their children’s lives by talking with them, reading to them, and providing extra-curricular activities for them in the years before they arrive at the school. Our teachers and their assistants provide an extraordinarily loving and caring environment for the children. With the support of our families, our goal is to prepare children to be successful in their next level of school.
When they leave St. James most of our students attend private schools , but many also attend local public schools.

WAIT LIST ~ Because many parents put their child on our waiting list at birth or soon thereafter, the school has a tradition of long waiting lists. However, in the past two years there has been a place for every child on the Wait List. We accept children on a first-come-first-serve basis. There are two exceptions which are explained below:
#1 St. James Church members have preference over non-church members.
In order to receive preference as a church member, families must: be active church members; participate in a ministry of the church on a regular/recognized basis; be communicants; and make a financial commitment to the church through annual pledging.
#2 Siblings of current or former students have preference over non-siblings.
A sibling is defined as the brother or sister of a student who is currently attending St. James Parish Day School or a brother or sister of a former student who attended St. James Parish Day School for at least one full year. A student who attends or has attended only Summer School at St. James does not earn sibling status for his or her sibling(s).
PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION ~ this wonderful group supports the school by volunteering their time and also by providing funding for extra equipment, supplies, extra-curricular activities and sometimes, capital expenditures.
CHAPEL All classes participate in a brief, weekly chapel service. During this time children hear Bible stories and learn basic Christian ideas such as kindness, compassion, honesty and the importance of the Golden Rule.
